Jenny Weigel

By the time she graduated high school, Jenny Weigel had performed on multiple instruments, including various clarinets, oboe, bassoon, violin, and string bass, in addition to vocal work. Her passion for music led her to Senseney Music, where a simple administrative role quickly turned into an apprenticeship in instrument repair once her mechanical aptitude became apparent.

While studying for her BA in Music at Wichita State University (graduating magna cum laude with a minor in Linguistics), Jenny continued her in-depth apprenticeship at Senseney Music under the guidance of six seasoned technicians. She gained extensive experience in woodwind, brass, orchestral, and fretted string instrument repair—skills that would define her future career.

After graduation, Jenny Weigel continued to refine her craft at Senseney Music for another eight years. Her innovative mindset and technical curiosity led her to experiment with tools, materials, and methods on damaged instruments, deepening her understanding of the trade. During this time, she developed a specialization in woodwind instrument repair and contributed to educational clinics for university music programs.

In May 2012, Jenny Weigel relocated to New Zealand with her young family, bringing her expertise across the globe. Since then, she has earned the trust of musicians throughout New Zealand by delivering high-quality, reliable instrument repair services. Always striving to improve, she studied at the Peter Minturn Goldsmith School and trained internationally with renowned technicians including Joel and David Straubinger, Luke Penella, Chris McKenna, Jeff Weissman, and Powell Flutes—with further training always on the horizon.

Beyond her bench work, Jenny Weigel is deeply involved in music education and community outreach. She volunteers with Scouts Aotearoa and public libraries, introducing youth to musical instruments and guiding them in crafting their own. She’s also been invited to speak on careers in the music industry and the role of women in technical fields. Her educational initiatives have reached programs such as Sistema and APO Summer School, where she’s led courses on instrument care, maintenance, and marching band fundamentals.

Whether it’s through her meticulous repair work or her commitment to music education, Jenny Weigel continues to make a lasting impact on the musical landscape in New Zealand and beyond
